Man United v Inter

Man United v Inter

Inter Milan v Manchester United offers the Red Devils a chance to extend their lead in Group A of the International Champions Cup. Although United beat AS Roma 3-2, Louis Van Gaal was not pleased with their performance. Against LA Galaxy, Van Gaal put out what looked to be his strongest possible XI. The Roma game saw more experimentation. Reserve-team players were mixed into the selection. In both games, half time saw the Dutchman make wholesale changes. In the centre of midfield, Tom Cleverley may be rested, having captained the side in Denver and playing more minutes than anyone other than Blackett. Darren Fletcher and Ander Herrera may repeat the partnership that was so effective against LA. Up front, Wayne Rooney has been in fine goalscoring form, but perhaps Van Gaal will give Javier Hernandez a chance in the furthest forward role this time around. Up against Nemanja Vidic, Hernandez's pace could do some real damage.

Real Madrid v Roma

Real Madrid v Roma

Last season ended with Real Madrid clinching its long awaited tenth Champions League trophy in Lisbon. Madrid face a stiff challenge - having been drawn in Group A along with two Italian giants in Inter Milan and Roma, as well as English superclub Manchester United. Strong performances in all three games are necessary - as only the winners of the group progress to the competition's final. Roma should have its own stars on show in Dallas - including Italian national team veterans and 2006 World Cup winners Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi. A squad packed with interesting attacking options also includes Bosnian playmaker Miralem Pjanic, Serbian wideman Adem Ljajic and Brazil full-back Maicon. England's Ashley Cole, who has joined this summer on a free transfer from Chelsea, will be eager to impress - and will likely be up against former Tottenham man Bale down their wing.

ATP Kitzbuhel Open

ATP Kitzbuhel Open

All eyes will be on rising star Dominic Thiem, the 20-year-old Austrian who has raced up the rankings in 2014 and claimed wins over the likes of Stan Wawrinka, as he plays on Austrian soil. Thiem was a quarterfinalist in Kitzbuhel in 2013 as a 149-ranked teenager and returns ranked 47 and the fifth seed. He opens against qualifier Joao Souza and could potentially meet another very talented youngster, Jiri Vesely, in the second round – although Vesely’s first-round opponent, Jan-Lennard Struff, has also been playing very good tennis in 2014. Jarkko Nieminen’s chances in a quarterfinal meeting with Andreas Seppi would be great, but the Finn is going to have to work hard to get there.
