ATP Washington - Nishikori v Gasquet

ATP Washington - Nishikori v Gasquet

Kei Nishikori who entered this tournament as the fourth seed takes on an old nemesis next in the shape of Richard Gasquet who has managed to outdo the Japanese player on all four previous occasions. However this is a quarter-final and big games do strange things to form books, however that also may not be in Nishikori's favour. It has been a fairly low key year for Gasquet after a three title haul in 2013 and finishing as World number 9, he now enters here at number 14 after having a spate of back injuries and other niggles which has hampered his progression. Nishikori has been steadily stalking the top ten for a while and now sits at 11th having introduced Michael Chang to his training entourage. He however has constantly had to ward of the injury issues faced by modern pro-players despite taking the Memphis title in February and making the semis at the Miami open. This should be a solid clash of differing styles and fitness may be the hinge that splits the pair.

The Emirates Cup

The Emirates Cup

Arsenal begin their Emirates Cup hosting duties by taking on Benfica, who are present in the tournament for the first time. Arsenal have already had two low key pre-season warm-up matches so this small competition will get them ready for a higher gear workout in preparation for the upcoming FA Community Shield against Premier League champions Manchester City next week. To enhance the attacking nature of the game as a whole, each team in the tournament are awarded one point for every goal they score, with an even greater twist occurring if the teams become tied on Points and Goal Difference, "Shots on target" is used to decide the winner! Goalkeepers, Beware!

Olympiakos v Man City

Olympiakos v Man City

Pellegrini's Man City go into their final fixture in the Group stage of the International Champions Cup knowing that their destiny, which would have in all likelihood been a Manchetser derby against rivals United, is not in their hands as due to Liverpool heading the group by one point advantage. City helped themselves to 5 goals against Milan, however they failed to over-turn Premier League opponents Liverpool who saw them off in a penalty shootout. Despite both teams natural desire to win, the Premier League defence will be at the fore-front of their plans and expect a few changes throughout the match from Pellegrini as he still works on his shape.

Man Utd v Real Madrid

Man Utd v Real Madrid

As pre-season friendlies go, especially with the prospect of a potential Manchester United v Liverpool clash looming in the final of this competition, this fixture pretty much eclipses everything. As ticket sales are still going this will be played out in front of over 100,000 fans in Detroit. United managed to see off Inter Milan after a penalty shoot-out and despite the need to test many facets of both European giants new outfits, it is likely that Rooney, Ronaldo and Bale will feature in this decider. Elsewhere a Roma or Inter Milan win could still snatch the top spot from United if they slip up against The Galacticos.
