The Chinese Grand Prix

The Chinese Grand Prix

Hamilton took his third pole position in four races this season, recording a lap more than half a second quicker than Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo in treacherous conditions. It was the Briton's 34th pole of his career, placing him in fourth place on the all time list behind Sebastian Vettel (45) Ayrton Senna (65) and Michael Schumacher (68). After clinching back-to-back wins for the first time in four years with his recent successes in Malaysia and Bahrain, Hamilton is now poised to claim three victories in a row for the first time in his career. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso was the best of the rest in fifth behind the leading two marques, whilst Jenson Button could only manage 12th in his McLaren due to issues trying to heat up the front tyres in the cold conditions.

Chelsea v Sunderland

Chelsea v Sunderland

A 2-2 draw away to Manchester City would be a spectacular result in any other circumstances but given that they surrendered an unlikely lead in the dying minutes Sunderland may well be feeling deflated. The reality now is that they need to pick up points against either Chelsea or United away from home in order to beat the drop, while the Blues now have the title within their grasp following the Black Cats' favour on Wednesday. Expect plenty of passion from the visitors but Mourinho won't let his side take any games for granted and knowing that 4 wins will secure the title is incentive enough to ensure they don't slip up before the crucial match against Liverpool.

Sociedad v Espanyol

Sociedad v Espanyol

Real Sociedad blew a great chance to get their first win in 3 games last weekend away to Celta Vigo. Leading by a goal and playing with a one-man advantage, the Basques could not close out the win as they see their chances of returning to the Champions League slip away. Antoine Griezmann finally got back to scoring ways in the last round. The Frenchman had gone seven games without scoring and his return to form is a timely one. The problem this week however, is that the France international is suspended.

Fiorentina v Roma

Fiorentina v Roma

Fiorentina are highly unlikely to catch Napoli in third place, but the Viola are trying to keep up their good form in preparation for the Coppa Italia final at the end of their season. Roma have stated that they are not giving up on the title race, but for the first time in a few weeks they will play after Juventus do, which could generate some pressure should Juve win. This game, played between two of the most impressive coaches in the league, will probably have some interesting tactical aspects, as changes will be made during the game and both managers will take counter-measures to contain their opponents' qualities.
